Rancho Santa Margarita

Rancho Santa Margarita is a modern South Orange County community with surprisingly deep California roots. Long before today’s neighborhoods, the area was visited by the Portolá expedition in 1769, and the region’s Spanish-era influence expanded with the founding of Mission San Juan Capistrano in 1776. (Rancho Santa Margarita) In the 1800s the land was organized into large ranchos, later purchased in 1882, and portions were set aside for park purposes through donations in 1948 and 1963—a legacy that still shapes the area’s open-space feel. (Rancho Santa Margarita) The community remained relatively remote until the first homes in the master-planned Rancho Santa Margarita were sold in 1986, and voters ultimately chose cityhood in November 1999; the City of Rancho Santa Margarita officially incorporated on January 1, 2000. (Rancho Santa Margarita)

People love living here because it’s built for families and everyday quality of life—parks and trails woven through neighborhoods, a strong “village” layout, and quick access to outdoor adventures with the Cleveland National Forest right next door. (Rancho Santa Margarita) A signature gathering place is Lago Santa Margarita, a manmade community lake and “beach club” setting that anchors local events and an easy, walkable lifestyle. (Rancho Santa Margarita) The result is a community that feels safe, active, and connected—close to the coast, but tucked into the hills with a true hometown vibe.
